Cold water seeps, into the porous ground

Finds its way deep, to where limestone is found

As the centuries pass, and time bleeds away

A dark cave is carved out, beyond the light of day

Drip, drop, drip, drop

A cave, a niche, in Mother Earth

A womb from which, She gives birth

To eyeless creatures, that scatter and crawl

Across the cold, moist chamber, from wall to wall

Drip, drop, drip, drop

Water mixed with sulfite, finds this dark place

Down grows a stalactite, the ceiling as its base

And what it cannot hold, is deposited beneath

A stalagmite reaches up, like a great beast’s teeth

Drip, drop, drip, drop

Cave becomes cavern, cracks form in its crown

Ancient man finds, a way to climb down

A sacred place below, the realm of moon and sun

A tomb in which to place, a beloved dead one

Drip, drop, drip, drop
